Key responsibilities of a cemetery board include:

  • Managing plot sales:

    Deciding on the price and availability of burial plots, issuing deeds, and handling related paperwork. 

  • Groundskeeping oversight:

    Ensuring the cemetery grounds are properly maintained, including landscaping, grave markers, and pathways. 

  • Enforcing regulations:

    Implementing and upholding rules regarding burials, memorial decorations, and other cemetery practices. 

  • Financial management:

    Overseeing the cemetery's budget, including expenses related to maintenance, staff, and improvements. 

  • Addressing complaints:

    Investigating and resolving any issues raised by lot owners or visitors regarding cemetery operations. 

  • Compliance with laws:

    Ensuring the cemetery adheres to all relevant state and local laws governing burial practices. 

  • Planning and development:

    Making decisions regarding future expansion or renovations to the cemetery grounds. 

  • Community engagement:

    Maintaining positive relationships with families and the wider community regarding the cemetery
